The Edina 9th-12th Grade Rec. League offers opportunities for boys and girls in grade 9-12 who do not participate in a school organized team yet live in and/or attend school in Edina. Registration for this league will close November 30th. Fees are $195.
Boys 9th - 12th Grade
Senior Rec. league boys participate in the Southwest Basketball League. Games are played on Sundays in neighboring communities including Minnetonka, Wayzata and Hopkins along with Edina and start in January and end with a tournament in March where there is a guarantee of 3 games. There are separate teams for each grade level and teams will only play other teams at the same grade level (9th grade teams, 10th grade teams, 11th grade teams and 12th grade teams).
Southwest League Rules
The EBA will schedule open gym time throughout the season on Saturdays, which players can use for practice or to play pick up games, and have a pre-season tournament against other Edina teams in early December. Each team is guaranteed 14 games between the pre-season tournament, regular season and end-of-the-season tournament. This is the same number of events as in previous years.
Each player will receive a basketball jersey. Players are expected to bring their own basketballs to open gyms.
We will need parent volunteers to coach each team. Coaches will be responsible for enforcing equal playing time rules. Coaches will be required to undergo a simple background check and be certified in concussion training. This is accomplished by watching a 20 minute video. Even if you have completed training with another sports organization, you will need to complete the training for basketball also.
Evaluations for all 9th-12th grade boys players will take place in early December. Evaluations are held in order to form equitable teams. All registrants are required to participate in the mandatory evaluation session.
After the player evaluation sessions, the number of teams will be determined by the number of players registered for each grade. Teams will have a maximum of 10 players. Teams are then formed by a draft conducted by coaches who have signed up to coach prior to the draft. Parent coaches may have their son assist in the draft. Play with requests are not taken. The only way to affect who is on your son’s team is to sign up to coach and participate in the draft.
Girls 9th-12th Grade
Senior House league girls participate in the West Metro League. Games are played in Minnetonka or Eden Prairie, on Sunday mornings. Games are professionally refereed and a league coordinator is present at all games to help oversee and handle any issues. The season starts in early December and ends in mid-late March.
Practices are held at an Edina gym one night per week.
Team formation is dependent on the number of players registered. A minimum of eight players must register to field one team. Multiple teams will be created as warranted.
Each player will receive a basketball jersey. Players are expected to bring their own basketballs to practices/games.
