Mark Gorius, VP Girls Travel
The Travel program is designed to give girls with more advanced basketball skills the opportunity to play against stronger competition. Tryouts are open to girls that live in Edina and/or attend school in Edina. Travel teams compete in 11 tournaments that have been selected in advance by the EBA. Tournaments are held on weekends and games may be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Registration will open in August and runs through September 20. The registration system will close at 11:59pm on the 20th. Glitches can happen with the registration system if it is overloaded. Do not wait until the last minute to register in case there is a problem. Late registrations will not be taken.
EBA will be hosting a parent meeting to discuss the boys and girls traveling program in further detail. This meeting is geared towards incoming players (4th graders) or players new to the program.
Date: Wednesday, September 13th
Time: 7:00 – 8:00pm
Location: South view Middle School Auditorium
Parent coaches are used in 4th grade. Coaches in 4th grade will not be determined until the completion of tryouts.
Paid coaches are used in 5th-8th grade. All coaches go through a background check, concussion training and coaching clinics throughout the season.
WHEN AND WHERE DO KIDS PRACTICE?
Practices can take place on any day of the week except Sundays. Practices are 1.5 hours long (usually 6-7:30pm, 6:30-8pm, 7:30-9pm or 8:00-9:30pm). Practices on Saturday will take place between 9am and 3pm. Practices can take place at either of the Middle schools, High school or Community Center. In some cases practices may take place at 43 Hoops (Hopkins) or Good Samaritan Church (Edina).
4th graders and all players new to the EBA's travel program are given a new basketball. All ages of girls travel play with a 28.5 inch basketball.
The EBA is working with General Sports to provide uniforms and optional apparel to travel teams. This year, uniforms need to be purchased by 4th & 6th graders. Any kids new to the program in 5th, 7th and 8th grade also need to order uniforms. General Sports WILL NOT have a presence at our tryouts. Rather, all ordering of uniforms and apparel will be done through the General Sports online store. The online store will be posted September 1. Beginning on September 1, players/parents are encouraged to visit General Sports to try on all apparel for sizing. Hours to try on apparel is M-F 10-7, Sat 9-5 and Sun 11-5. All uniform orders must be placed and paid for by October 9th. The total cost of the required uniform is $90.00
The EBA will coordinate a photo day during the season.
$645 ($195 registration fee, $25 tryout fee, $425 travel fee) for 5th-8th graders
$500 ($195 registration fee, $25 tryout fee, $280 travel fee) for 4th graders
The EBA's policy states that once teams are formed no refunds will be given except with a doctor's written excuse or a move out of the district.

Tryouts are scheduled to take place Saturday, Sept 23rd and Sunday, Sept 24th in the Edina Community Center Gyms. After the Sunday tryout, teams will be posted on the EBA's website. Traditionally, 3 teams for each grade are formed, with 8-10 players on each team. Depending upon the number of girls trying out in grade, there is the possibility of players not getting placed on a team. If that's the case, we (the EBA) will automatically enroll your player in our rec league program. There is no need to re-register. We will also issue you a travel fee refund.
The tryout schedule is as follows (use the same schedule for both days):
8:00am-9:15am - 4th grade girls
9:30am-11:00am- 5th grade girls/7th grade girls
11:30am-1:00pm - 6th grade girls/8th grade girls
If your child is unable to attend tryouts due to injury or sickness, please contact Mark Gorius.
Team practices are scheduled to begin the week of October 9th.
